AGM Speechby Alec Bayford AGM November 2009 Hello.I’d like to start with an apology. Due to a change of my shift pattern im unable to attend tonights meeting. Ok how do I sum up the last 12 months? Obviously it was a big year in mini circles. The 50th birthday being the main attraction For the club this meant juggling all our normal activities with the additional events. Despite being a big year for our favourite little car the club was hard pushed to get to every event, we were faced with choosing which events to attend and as a result at some show’s we were a little thin on the ground. Hopefully that will be addressed in the new year. The London Brighton run. For the second year running we were refused a club stand. This is because we are competing with a lot of smaller clubs who can turn around their applications a lot quicker than we can. We have complained to the clubs chairman about this and have been given assurances that next year we will be given a club stand. The club van. Yes it’s finally on the road. This is a big asset and should be of tremendous help in getting our stuff to shows in the future. The IMM. This event was well attended and a tremendous tribute to the mini. We also raised over £600 for McMillan Nurses Well done everyone involved. The A’s European tour. What can I say. A Fab event. The club celebrated the mini’s 50th by doing a 3000 mile trip across Europe visiting several landmarks made famous by the mini. Castle Coombe. Despite most of the committee being away in Europe the mini world action day at Coombe was very well attended and from what im told a great day’s action. Ok now to the tricky subject of fund raising. As a club we have to raise a certain amount of money to continue operating. Normally we hold our own show. This year we decided not to hold a show because we would have to compete with every other event in a very packed calendar. This decision was verified when another local club held an event at our former show site. From all accounts it was a disaster. We as a club have a responsibility not to waste our members money. We do now need to boost funds and we are putting together several events in the new year. Please attend as this is important to keep the club afloat. Further details will follow. To sum up it’s been a great year, if we keep working hard the club will continue to improve. Thank you all for you continued support. This is a great club and im proud to be associated with it.
